8Man about town...THIS month I’ve got a question for you. Why are we so shy when it comes to telling people where we live?I pose this question because I’m writing this column whilst enjoying a quick beer sheltering from the blazing sunshine on the appropriately named Costa del Sol.Why’s my location significant? Well, just above me on the brow of a hill, where the main road curves in to this little coastal town, is a huge sign that proudly announces this is La Cala de Mijas. The hoarding, comprising individual letters about twenty feet tall. It’s is by no means unique. As the tourist makes their way along the main road connecting Malaga and Marbella every town and village alerts them to its presence. Every 500 yards there’s another large sign telling me I’ve arrived in Calahonda or Cabo Pino or El Faro. There are many more besides. It’s not just the Andalusians who’re proud to receive visitors with a large and unmissable message welcoming them to wherever they are. As you might have guessed, the Americans are past masters at this peculiar form of marketing. There’s the world famous “Hollywood” sign that must have inspired the one sitting upon the hill above me right now. It’s a phenomenon not just restricted to well known US locations. Every town or city with a water tower has its name emblazoned in giant lettering on the tank to leave you in no doubt where you are. And there are many of them. So, it got me thinking. Our proud little town receives many visitors. Some stay, others pare passing through. But they’re all welcomed with rather more discrete and sober signage as they enter or leave Congleton on the main roads to Newcastle, Macclesfield or Holmes Chapel. You might have noticed the black iron displays with a polite greeting displayed in contrasting gold lettering in a classy typeface. They’re very nice too. Not for us the gaudy, brash or borderline boastful messaging so beloved of our American and Spanish friends. But why not? We have two very prominent water rowers in Congleton. One’s towards the west and occupies a prominent position over looking West Heath, the Dane Valley and the town centre. The other is by Astbury Lane Ends and dominates the townscape in the east. Would it be impertinent to signify our pride in Congleton by painting the name of the town on the towers’ water tanks? How about a huge plantation of flowers or shrubs spelling out “Congleton” on one of the new link road’s wide and currently bare embankments? And I think you might know where I’m going next. Taking Tinsel Town and La Cala de Midas as excellent examples, how about a huge “Congleton” sign built to adorn the town-side slope of The Cloud?I’ll be the first to admit the latter idea is pure “blue sky thinking”. But looking at the sign on the hill above me with a beautiful blue sky behind it, it is a magnificent, impressive and imposing sight.Mark Edwardson

10An apple a day...I love all seasons but Autumn for me is one of true splendour. Being a nature lover, I adore the fiery display as the trees put on their spectacular final hoorah. Golden hues adorn the countryside and there’s nothing better at this time of year than a blustery, sunny autumn walk to blow away the cobwebs. Kicking up the blankets of fallen leaves, collecting a handful of conkers, gathering the last harvest of hedgerow fruits and apple picking. Returning home to a roaring fire and heartwarming, nourishing food. It’s a season that invokes nostalgia. It’s a season that signifies change and brings a time of reflection. It’s also a time for self-care and nurturing and to conserve our energy as we head into the dark winter months. Just as nature retreats for her seasonal slumber – it’s also a time for us to do the same. I know, in today’s busy world, this all seems a ‘romantic’ ideal – switching off, withdrawing and resting is nigh on impossible for many. We are so used to going against the grain so to say, burning the candle at both ends, which ultimately comes at a cost, particular for our health and wellbeing. Physically and mentally. With this in mind, It comes as no surprise that at this time of year we often succumb to a weakened immune system, experience a dip in energy levels or struggle with low mood. However, the good news is that nature in her wisdom also provides the gifts to remedy these seasonal ailments in the form of seasonal herbs and foods that help restore health, vitality and help bolster our defences against bugs and viruses.SEASONAL SNIFFLES – now is the perfect time to consider winter wellness and the various approaches we can adopt to support immunity and build resilience. Nature provides many traditional remedies that have been scientifically shown to boost or modulate immunity. Elderberry syrup, rosehips and acerola cherry for Vitamin C, Olive leaf and black seed oil revered for their anti-viral properties. Garlic – nature’s natural antibiotic. Medicinal mushrooms such as reishi, chaga and maitake all offering immune support. Apples – yes there is some truth in the old saying an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Abundant in Autumn, they are one of many foods that contain a flavonoid called Quercetin. Red apples particularly are a favourable source alongside capers, red onions, elderberries, green leafy veg, fennel and coriander. Quercetin is a natural anti histamine with anti inflammatory, anti-bacterial, antioxidant and anti viral properties and has been extensively studied for its health benefits with emerging evidence suggesting Quercetin may be a potent player in the fight against viral infections.EAT WELL TO BUILD RESILIENCE – minimise intake of ultra processed foods and instead consume a wide variety of and a rainbow of foods, especially fruits, vegetables, grains and pulses to ensure a plentiful intake of the necessary nutrients to support your health. Homemade soups and hearty stews at this time of year always hit the spot and can be highly nutritious, inexpensive, quick and easy. Including fermented foods such as sauerkraut, kimchi or kombucha, which are naturally rich in healthy bacteria, to your diet is also a great way to nourish gut health whilst offering additional immune support.DARK NIGHTS & SHORTER DAYS - Vitamin D supplementation – one to give serious consideration to at this time of year especially as shorter days and long dark nights loom. Low Vitamin D levels have been shown to adversely affect mood and immunity.REST WELL – Rest and good quality sleep is essential. Be wise, conserve your energy for times when it’s best spent and factor in time to replenish when needed. It’s ok to switch off for a while and Autumn is the perfect opportunity to ‘unplug’ and slow down. Seize the moment. My tonic this Autumn? WILL WRITING • WILL TRUSTS • ASSETS TRUSTPOWER OF ATTORNEY • INHERITANCE TAX PLANNINGTelephone 01270 667 912 or visit www.sanctuarytts.comSanctuary Tax & Trust Services Ltd, 41 Lawton Road, Alsager ST7 2AAAs the cost-of-living spirals and more of our children struggle to get a footing on the property ladder it is now more important than ever to plan our family’s inheritance. The team at Sanctuary Tax & Trust explain how many families nd themselves victims of avoidable losses and why simply writing a will does not guarantee our family will inherit as we wish. For the vast majority of people, we spend all our lives working to build up wealth, through property, savings and pensions we look at providing nancial security for our families and when our nal day arrives, we hope these assets will pass to the people we care about the most, partners, children, relatives and friends. Traditionally, people have chosen wills to document their wishes and while writing a will is important, it does not provide any protection for the assets within it.Considerations when planning InheritanceCare Fees – As we live longer the likelihood of needing care becomes greater and under the government’s changes to the social care act should the need for care arise, we could see our asset taken down to just £14,250. The new assessment process will see everybody with property and savings over a combined value of £23,250 being required to pay for their care.Relationship Failure – When passing assets purely through a will we see many leaving their assets to their children but not giving consideration to what would happen if one of their children was to divorce. This can lead to a child seeing half of their inheritance in the hands of an ex-partner and in the event of early bereavement this can lead to grandchildren being disinherited.Inheritance Tax – The current IHT framework can be complex and unknowingly people can leave their children and even grandchildren with an Inheritance tax issue.Probate – The cost of probate as risen dramatically over the last few years, and it can be a lengthy and drawn-out process. On average, with a valid Will, probate will typically take 6 – 12 months to complete, without a Will it may can take up to 2 years. Its Never the Wrong Time To Do The Right Thing – While people appreciate that inheritance planning is important many will delay seeking the correct advice. By putting o arranging our aairs we run the risk of running out of time, or in the event o illness, seeing our options dramatically reduced. Why Sanctuary Tax & Trust Services? With over 20 years of experience in Estate and Inheritance planning we have helped families in the area protect their assets and plan their inheritance in the most cost-eective way. While the individual family’s circumstance may vary, the one constant is that each family aims to provide the maximum amount of inheritance possible without the stress of complexed legal jargon.

The fresh look reflects Congleton Museums core values and the heart of the organisation. The museum is all about preserving history, celebrating heritage, and bringing the past to life in the most accessible way possible. Why have Congleton Museum updated the website and created a new brand?Congleton Museum secured £15,000 in funding from The Enclosure Trust, and £750 in funding from Congleton Town Council to help fund the project which ran from January to July 2023. Digital Agency, Four, were hired to help the museum modernise the website to attract to a wider audience and become more user friendly. The previous website had become outdated and was therefore in need of a makeover.Co-creation sessions with members of the community helped to establish that the museum needed its own identity, and that the branding should harness the museums values. The new branding is clean and clear, and symbolises heritage, and the different communities that visit the museum. The new “Congleton Green” which will be used in logo’s and as the primary branding colour, pays homage to the previous brand while giving it a new lease of life. 16Congleton’s heritage...HIGHStreets. Centuries-old thoroughfares, and very useful! Everywhere these have seen radical change, particularly over the last decade and a half. So, out of sheer curiosity, let’s travel back to glimpse the Congleton of, say, 200 years ago. The centre-town street pattern here although somewhat altered is still plainly recognisable today. Happily, this enables us to picture a true Regency-era scene – now seeming wholly different. What shops and services were available? Who might you meet trading on the High Street then? According to a contemporary directory, early 1820’s Congleton, described as a ‘clean and airy town’, was still quite small. The Population Returns of 1821 registered just 6,400 inhabitants. Compare this with around 30,000 now. Names of occupants were not recorded in this basic form of early census, but the tally shows a mere 1,212 households. Commerce, in many tiny premises, spread into West, Booth, Mill, Little, Moody, Chapel and Lawton Streets. Alongside regular street trade was a weekly market on Saturday. Sticking with the High Street itself… most numerous? Grocers and drapers (half a dozen each) - and nearly as many bakers/flour dealers, and ironmongers. Watch-and-clockmakers? Four. That’s no mean choice of preferred supplier in one short stretch of street! Gentlemen, a new pair of leather breeches? See Catherine Cumberbirch. Men’s hatter? Samuel Hickton. Ladies might hasten to Mary and Maria Parnell, milliners. Druggist William Hadfield no doubt assisted the two High Street surgeries, namely Lowe & Bullock and James M. Wolfenden. Add a cabinet maker, just the one plumber, an auctioneer even - plus coopers, boot & shoe makers, and leather sellers (two each). Risky times though for property. No fewer than three separate fire insurance companies had branches, called Fire Offices, on the High Street. Another four were located nearby.Life wasn’t all utility. Sarah and Hannah Bradford dealt in toys. Sweet treats could be purchased from confectioners Fanny and Martha Simpson. Samuel Yates sold books. Two liquor merchants, John Jepson and John Parsons, tempted customers, but cafes, eateries and restaurants? No, not yet. However ‘taverns and public houses’ were plentiful. Seven opened doors on the High Street alone. The White Lion was then managed by W. Pownall. And that number didn’t include the inns offering hospitality – Golden Lion and Roebuck. Imagine these multiple, individual local businesses packed in together and all hoping for custom. Maybe some of these High Street traders of two centuries past were your ancestors? I’d be delighted to receive comments on this or any of the topics presented in the Congleton’s Heritage series.Julie Elizabeth Smalley

18The impact of first impressions...IN the UK property market, first impressions are everything. Before a potential buyer even steps foot inside, their initial judgments are formed the moment they view the property's frontage. Essentially, the exterior of your home serves as the introduction to the narrative you're presenting – and it significantly influences the entire viewing experience. The facade of a house isn't just about bricks and tiles; it's a reflection of the care, charm, and quality of the interiors. A tidy and attractive exterior not only draws more viewings but can also substantially elevate the perceived market value of the property. Research indicates that homes with strong kerb appeal often command higher offers compared to those lacking that initial allure. To capitalise on this, think about straightforward enhancements: a newly painted front door, well-kept gardens, blooming flowerbeds, and pristine pathways can make a world of difference. Ensure that garden fences are in top condition and that window frames, shutters, or other visible exterior elements are clean and well-maintained. Even subtle additions, like a welcoming door mat or tasteful outdoor lighting, can leave a lasting impression. However, less is always more so don’t over add those extra touches. In the end, when selling your property, understand that the decision to purchase is as much about emotion as it is about practicality. A striking exterior paves the way for an engaging viewing, enticing buyers with the promise of a home that's been well-loved and looked after. In the property world, first impressions indeed go a long way.Stephenson BrowneCongleton's Timeless Gem AwaitsStep into Moreton Meadows Farm, the transformed Coach House on Stony Lane, near Wagg’s Lane. With ties tracing back to the 1851 census and its earliest mention in 1593 records on boundary establishment, this residence is a testament to Congleton's rich past. While retaining its timeless essence, the Coach House seamlessly fuses today's amenities with classic elegance.Set on 0.75 acres, its proximity to the town centre, Astbury Mere Country Park, and Astbury village offers both tranquillity and convenience. The interior boasts a generous lounge and an oak-floored dining space, both granting picturesque views of the gardens. A contemporary kitchen enhances its appeal. The upper level houses a plush master suite, three cosy bedrooms, and a modern bathroom. 20Community matters... A Lench Charity Golf DaAN Unforgettable Day with A Lench Building Contractors: Golf, Charity, and Community**As the season turns, A Lench Building Contractors marks it with their anticipated annual golf day. A tradition that brings together staff and clients to rally behind a worthy cause. This year, our venue was the splendid Carden Park Hotel. I must admit, golf isn’t my forte, but the significance of being part of this event was undeniable. This year’s charity was Prostate Cancer UK, a cause close to their hearts. In 2022 they lost a member of their team Peter Martin, who was Health and Safety manager, to the disease. For Adrian, the company’s director, Peter wasn’t just an employee, but a close friend. Our eventful day started at the Club House, complete with a breakfast of bacon sandwiches. Here, I had the privilege of chatting with Adrian Lench, who shed light on the core objectives of their initiative – strengthening client relationships, raising funds, and driving awareness for their chosen charity. Their business, multi-dimensional in its approach, engages with developers like David Wilson Homes, Redrow, and Jones Homes, overseeing projects from inception to completion. In addition, A Lench has carved a niche in domestic services through a branch of the business called TTL. From extensions, loft conversions, to comprehensive home renovations, TTL’s breadth is impressive. A Lench’s extensive capabilities significantly bolster these home projects, with an edge in material procurement and a skilled team that ensures smooth project progression.Another part of the business is Wild Goose Architecture, steered by the seasoned Architectural Designer, Chris Rye. With over three decades under his belt, Chris’s involvement adds immense value. He collaborates closely with the construction team, ensuring client visions come to life perfectly. The golf day saw many familiar faces, long-standing clients, and suppliers of A Lench. Their conversations echoed a deep respect for Adrian and his team. The overwhelming number of hole sponsors, the generous monetary contributions, and the auction items bore witness to the community’s trust in A Lench. As the golfing began, we made our way to hole 17, the starting point for the day. We cheered and supported players with refreshments as they traversed the course. The day’s mood remained buoyant despite the weather’s minor hiccups. A memorable moment was the appearance of former footballer Matt Le Tissier at hole 17. A veteran with eight England caps and 161 goals for Southampton FC, he was there, supporting A Lench in their charitable endeavours.Post-golf, The Shooting Lodge at Carden Park was abuzz with attendees.

Despite my limited football knowledge and golfing skills, I was thoroughly entertained, a testament to the engaging nature of the day and its participants. As the day wrapped up, the collective efforts culminated in raising £12,500 for Prostate Cancer UK. These funds play a pivotal role in advancing research aimed at curtailing the fatality rate of prostate cancer. Prostate Cancer UK is committed to discovering enhanced treatments and early detection tests that can be pivotal in a screening process, potentially saving countless lives. What became strikingly apparent throughout the golf day was the profound bond shared within the A Lench community. Beyond professional affiliations, there exists a familial connection. The depth of their relationship was truly illuminated by their collective commitment to honouring the memory of Peter Martin. It’s a testament to their belief that Peter’s legacy can drive a brighter future, aiding countless men and their families in their battle against prostate cancer.Katy

Is Menopause becoming a brand?DON’T get me wrong, I’m delighted that menopause is being talked about more openly than ever before. It’s finally getting valuable recognition in the workplace and beyond. But has it become too commercialised? A woman’s natural stage of life now lost in brand-menopause! Since celebrities such as Davina McCall brought their experience with menopause to our TV screens, the topic is almost impossible to escape! There are so many positives from this increased awareness it’s hard to question it, but I wonder if all this ‘popularity’ has led to a de-valuation of what can often be a very difficult period of life for some women. The menopause market is now big business and it continues to grow. We ladies of mid-life have become a ‘demographic’ to be targeted with products and services aimed at managing the symptoms of menopause. Tailored skincare ranges, shampoos, beauty treatments, cooling sprays and even special underwear; the list is endless. One retailer even brought out a range of menopause nightwear with built-in temperature control! Some of these products may actually help but, I suspect, many will only help to boost big business profits from this lucrative meno-gold rush. So, what do women experiencing peri and post menopause really need? I think it comes down to genuine UNDERSTANDING. We are now better informed and consequently, better able to make choices regarding our care. There has been a huge uptake of medical intervention in HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy). Many prefer natural methods to navigate their symptoms and that is where reflexology can help with great effect. Reflexology for menopause aims to bring about optimum balance to the hormone system, relaxation and to relieve some of the physical and emotional symptoms. Understanding, empathy, and support, both at home and in the workplace are paramount, but what is talked about less often is TIME. This is a huge event in a woman’s life and she will need time to accept and come to terms with this next phase. Consequences of hormonal disruption aside, the age between 45 and 55 often brings additional life events. Caring for elderly parents, children leaving home, divorce etc. For some, acceptance of menopause and the loss of fertility carries with it a great sadness, especially for those who have not been able to have children. It is also an acceptance of advancing age, of changing body image, and external perceptions. This acceptance of life post menopause will not come overnight, it will happen in small steps. And these steps are taken through a maelstrom of symptoms which will vary in severity from woman to woman. Menopause the brand will continue to grow for sure; but time, understanding and effective support strategies are really the bottom line.….. And yes, I did buy a neck fan and it’s actually quite good!Jan Johnson Reflexology

3232Days Out & Meals Out reviews... Christmas lCHRISTMAS lights in Cheshire and beyond - Have you booked your Christmas Lights yet? They are all on sale now and a couple have sold out so I’ve created a list of our local ones.We have personally booked this one for our main Christmas activity this year. It’s a brand new location to visit for us so we are excited to see their set up. Christmas lights beside a waters edge have that extra Wow factor with the reflections so Lights in the Woods @ Alderford Lake got my vote. As darkness falls, the woods will come alive with spectacular display of immersive lights and festive sounds, offering a truly sparkling Christmas Experience. Christmas at Alderford also has an inside real ice rink and a Santa experience where you travel on a boat to his Grotto on an island in the middle of the lake. Which sounds magical and a little bit different, too. Open from 23rd November - 30th DecemberA brand new trail for this year is at Tatton Park in Knutsford. The National Trust site has got the fabulous Wild Rumpus putting on a Yuletide Winter Garden Adventure. Set within their beautiful gardens, you fall into a world of folklore, festive tradition and ridiculous rituals as the characters and creatures from winter myths and stories come to life.Expect an incredible illuminated trail, roasting marshmallows around the campfire, juggling and fire eating antics. Starting 24th nov - 23rd Dec.Luminate @ Walton Gardens is another newish trail as last year was their first one. With such a big company putting the trail on its sure to be an impressive one. Walking through the historic gardens you can expect a spectacular illuminated trail full light play and ambient music. Last year there was a magical fairy garden, a make a wish wall. 30th nov -24th Dec We went to Christmas at Bolesworth last year. It’s about an hours drive away from Holmes Chapel but it has such a lot do to there you can make a full evening of it. Bolesworth Castle is bathed in seasonal colour. Follow the route around the lake and beautiful grounds lit with thousands of stunning lights and effects, projections and interactive installations. There is also a large fairground, festive food and drink stalls and live reindeer. You can also add on ice skating and/or Santa’s grotto. 24th Nov– 31st DecWe love it at Blakemere Magical Woodland at Christmas. As you meander through the wood the lights and music completely surround you, they are literally everywhere you look. Under the trees feels more cosy and the trail is normally good under foot as sheltered. Featuring an appearance from Mr & Mrs Claus too.Stay for as long as you like! Take time to refuel and warm up with tasty snacks

Embracing morning pages...AS the sun gently rises, each new day offers the opportunity for a fresh start. In the quiet moments of an early morning, before the world cracks into full throttle, lies a powerful ritual known as ‘morning pages’. Credited to Julia Cameron, an American teacher and writer of many guises, morning pages is a practice championed by many.Simply put, morning pages invite us to engage in an unfiltered stream-of-consciousness writing that sets the tone for the day ahead. It helps you untangle the web of thoughts that may have accumulated overnight and opens space for fresh insights and ideas. How to Use Morning Pages- The aim is to write three pages of free-flowing thoughts as soon as you wake up. Without concern for grammar, punctuation or coherence, you let your thoughts spill onto the paper as quickly or as slowly as they form. The pages serve as a canvas for introspection and creative expression. The words are not meant to be justified or logical but rather raw, unapologetic thoughts.Penned words can create a sense of purpose for the day, act as a vessel to empty your head or a chest to collect inspiration from dreams. Seems like a lot, right?Benefits of Starting Your Day with Morning Pages - As with any form of journalling, there are many benefits, including:• Clarity and Focus: using morning pages as a brain dump clears mental clutter and paves the way for increased clarity and focus throughout the day.• Emotional Release: writing down your thoughts can be cathartic, helping you release lingering worries and promoting positive emotional wellbeing.• Creative Exploration: engaging in unfiltered writing encourages creative thinking and the discovery of new ideas, making it a valuable tool for anyone seeking solutions.• Self-Reflection: having a private space for self-reflection enables you to explore feelings, aspirations and desires without judgment.Try Morning Pages for Yourself - Before engaging in any other activity, find a quiet spot and dedicate at least 15 minutes to writing three pages of stream-of-consciousness thoughts. Focus on the process rather than the outcome, allowing your thoughts to flow freely without restraint. Try these questions to get started: what thoughts and feelings greet you as you wake? What do you hope to accomplish today? What’s been playing on your mind? What can you recall from your dreams?Morning pages is a practice that encourages you to embrace the present moment, releasing the mental clutter that may hinder productivity, creativity and enjoyment of the day ahead. Over time, it will improve creative flow and personal growth.Next month, we’ll look at the benefits of evening reflection writing..Anna WoolliscroftYou can find me on Instagram, TikTok or Facebook: @JournallingWithAnna

38In your home... TextilesTHE landscape of home textiles has experienced a remarkable evolution in recent years, ushering in a wave of exciting trends and concepts. At the Design House, their team of experts stands ready to guide customers through this dynamic world, ensuring they remain at the forefront of home decor. One of the standout features of their collection is the diverse range of fabrics they offer. From eco-friendly weaves to expansive wide-width fabrics, and an extensive selection of voiles and sheers, their options are as varied as their customers’ imaginations. Mark, one of the seasoned experts on the team, emphasises the allure of their “wide width fabrics.” These fabrics provide a sleek and seamless look to window dressings. Being double-width, they eliminate the need for fabric joins, ensuring a clean and crisp appearance. When it comes to dressing windows, practicality often takes centre stage. While beautifully dressed curtains can elevate any space, the hassle of constantly opening and closing them can deter many homeowners. That’s where roller blinds come in. They’ve evolved significantly, and more often than not, the Design House’s clients are opting for motorised roller blinds. With the convenience of remote control or smartphone apps, adjusting blinds has never been easier. But it’s not just the fabrics that have evolved; it’s also the way they hang them. Mark points out that in many modern homes, discrete ceiling tracks have become the preferred choice. Curtains hang gracefully from ceiling to floor, adopting a continuous wave design that exudes contemporary elegance. In the pursuit of that perfect balance between open, spacious living and a cozy, homely atmosphere, voiles have emerged as a stylish solution. These lightweight and translucent fabrics are increasingly finding their way into homes, providing privacy without the weightiness of heavy fabrics. The ever-evolving world of home textiles is a realm where style and functionality seamlessly merge at the Design House. Their commitment to helping customers navigate this exciting terrain includes offering expert advice and a wide array of choices to ensure homes reflect their unique taste and needs. Whether customers are embracing the clean lines of wide-width fabrics, the convenience of motorized blinds, or the airy elegance of voiles, the Design House is there to make interior design dreams a reality. The Design House, Manor Lane, Holmes Chapel

40Business update... AHMHOME holds a central place in everyone's life, but its suitability becomes particularly crucial for older or less abled individuals. The ability to enter and exit the house safely, navigate within, access essential facilities such as the bathroom, cook a meal, and reach the bed without risk all directly impact our dignity and overall well-being.If you've started to recognise that some of these tasks are becoming challenging to perform safely, it's time to consider making improvements.Unfortunately, many people find themselves unsure of where to begin, often burdened by concerns about the associated costs. However, financial assistance is available through a Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG) for those with qualifying conditions so they can alter their homes to make life easier. A DFG is a means-tested grant that provides a maximum of £30,000 to make alterations to the home to help people remain independent and safe. This might include renovating a bathroom or kitchen to make it more accessible or converting a downstairs room to a wetroom or bedroom. To apply for a DFG, you can contact your local council or for additional information, visit www.gov.uk/disabled-facilities-grants.When it comes to addressing the crucial area of the bathroom, that's where our expertise shines - we’ve been creating bespoke accessible bathrooms and wetrooms for over 24 years.Sometimes our customers think they need a full renovation but more often than not they just need a few adaptations to make life a little easier such as the installation of grab rails near the toilet or installing a walk-in bath or shower that is easier to access. We understand it can be daunting when considering making alterations to your home, which is why we guide our customers every step of the way. Our friendly home surveyors visit customers in their homes to truly understand their challenges and to provide customised solutions that fit within their budgets. Our Customer Service team are always on hand if you have any questions throughout the process and our commitment to excellence is reflected in our 'Excellent' rating on Trustpilot. Our customers are at the heart of what we do and we’re still a family-run company since my wife Julie and I founded AHM Installations in 1999. Drawing upon the wealth of caregiving, and bathroom adaptation experiences gained over the years we have rolled out our business to other parts of the UK where AHM employed staff can help where our service is needed. We take pride in carefully guiding our customers through the installation of new bathroom equipment in their homes. Our mission is driven by a genuine desire to alleviate the struggles individuals face and our unwavering belief that we can always find a solution, regardless of the budget or situation.AHM Installations

42Bridging The Gap, Mind MattersSOME days are just meant to be extraordinary, and the day we decided to take a leap of faith (literally!) by skydiving in Portugal was one of those days. What made this day even more special was that it wasn’t just about the thrill of freefalling from a plane; it was about raising funds for a cause close to our hearts. On that sunny morning in Portugal, we embarked on an adrenaline-fueled journey to raise £1445 for Bridging the Gap - Mind Matters CIO, and it turned out to be an experience we’ll never forget. Before we dive (excuse the pun) into the exhilarating details of our skydiving adventure, let’s take a moment to understand the cause we were supporting. Bridging the Gap - Mind Matters CIO is a charitable organisation dedicated to improving mental health services and support in our community. They offer an invaluable programme to individuals who are struggling – providing a combination of physical therapy and talking therapy to support the development of healthy habits and coping mechanisms that will last a lifetime. As the day approached, our excitement grew exponentially. Skydiving is a thrilling and nerve-wracking experience, even for the most adventurous souls among us. With our fundraising goal in mind, we suited up and prepared ourselves mentally for the leap. There was a mix of excitement and jitters as we waited for our turn to board the plane. The moment had come. Strapped to our experienced instructors, we ascended to 15,000 feet in a small plane. As the door opened and the cold rush of air hit us, the adrenaline started pumping. One by one, we dived headfirst into the open sky, feeling an indescribable rush of freedom. The sensation of freefalling is unlike anything else. The world below became a breathtaking panorama and for a moment, all our worries and fears were left behind as we embraced the exhilaration of the present. After the heart-pounding 60 seconds freefall, the parachute opened, and we gracefully glided back to the ground. The serene canopy ride allowed us to soak in the stunning Portuguese landscape. As we touched down safely, we were filled with an overwhelming sense of accomplishment. We had not only conquered our personal fears but also raised £1400 for Bridging the Gap - Mind Matters CIO. Our adventure had a real impact, and the funds we raised will help make a difference in the lives of those struggling with mental health challenges. Our skydiving adventure in Portugal was more than just an adrenaline rush; it was a powerful testament to the impact that a group of dedicated individuals can have when they come together for a cause. Bridging the Gap - Mind Matters CIO received much-needed support, and we had the adventure of a lifetime..Take a look at www.BTG-mindmatters.org to complete an application.
